ONE PICTURE IS WORTH 10,000 TURDS

BRISBANE COCK-UP IS ANOTHER NAIL IN FLUORIDES COFFIN.

Confidence in the safety of fluoride and the technology which delivers it to drinking water supplies appears to have hit a new low in Australia following the news that Brisbane residents, got twenty times the so-called "safe dosage" This was compounded by the fact that it apparently took as long as 12 days to identify the problem and if this was not bad enough, the government was not notified until this week that 300,000 litres of contaminated water were pumped into as many as 4,000 Brisbane homes on the 1st of May.

The plant had been shut down for routine maintenance but for reasons not yet clear, fluoride continued to be pumped into the supply. No doubt Queensland Premier will want to put everyones minds at rest by consuming twenty times her normal amount of water on TV to prove how confident she is of fluoridated waters safety.

Its bad enough that fluoride has no real value and is of course extremely toxic but exposing people to very high levels of the crap is no way to increase confidence. Here in the UK, I have lost count of the number of times that there have been problems with the technology at water treatment works and when large stretched of river have been killed by leaks of chlorine or caustic soda, and Camelford in Devon was poisoned, by aluminium, very strong public opposition should come as no surprise.
The equipment used really is not "fail safe;" more accidents are a certainty and the only way to prevent contamination of drinking water, a precious and dwindling resource, is to make sure that chemicals like fluoride and lunatics like Anna Bligh are never allowed anywhere near our water supplies. This is particularly important in a country like Australia which now seems to be in a permanent state of drought.

FLUORIDATION -- THE END IS NIGH

The end of the road for water fluoridation?

European Court ruling effectively bans water fluoridation, and prohibits all importation of processed food from fluoridated countries.

The European Court has ruled that any food that may also have a medicinal function MUST be regulated as a medicine. And that would include fluoridated water!

The MHRA does not have the power to exercise its discretion - it MUST recognise fluoiridated water as a medicine and subject it to full pharmacological scrutiny. In the meantime, all fluoridation in the UK and Ireland must stop.

Fluoridated water may not be used for processing food, and all export of any food made with it in the UK to other EC states is illegal. So also is the importation into any EC member stateof any processed foodstuff that has been made with fluoridated water - so the entire EC market is closed to firms in fluoridated areas of the USA, Canada Australia, and New Zealand.

Are the highly dubious 'benefits' of fluoridation really worth this price, or is it not time to get rid of this stupid practice world-wide, once and for all?

YOU WIN SOME YOU LOSE SOME

Last Tuesday I got a call from the Lancashire Telegraph who wanted to know would I be able to join a panel of professionals in Blackburn on the following Friday to meet Conservative Leader David Cameron. The idea was to have a question and answer session from our varied standpoints. I of course would be able to question Mr Cameron on environmental issues and thought Fluoride would come first and Energy a second or back up question. Opportunities like this don't come along every day so i took the prospect very seriously.

Although Blackburn from here is only twenty something miles it can still be reminiscent of "Across the Andes by Frog" as i know from many past experiences broadcasting from BBC Radio Lancashire and as a good little environmentalist, I don't posses a car and have to rely on busses, trains, taxis and the kindness of motorised friends. It can be a varied assortment of busses or trains and of course like most people, I do know what its like to be sat on a broken down train in the middle of nowhere for an hour or two and I even recall being stuck in a blizzard with a Sunday Times reporter on one ill-fated pollution bashing excursion.
Still, its not every day that opportunities to meet the man who could easily, on current Labour form, be the next prime minister of the UK come along and what better way for Friends of the Earth to establish some kind of rapport. More importantly for me and my colleagues, it would be a golden opportunity to raise the profile of our Fluoridation campaign and stoke up the publicity machine, so after a quick phone round i sorted out transport arrangements with my friend in Bury who was coming to visit me on Friday anyway. It just meant that she had to set off earlier and detour to Blackburn: I called the paper and accepted their invitation.
Next i had to phone some colleagues and discuss tactics and issues and then sit down and work out a concise and informative question for DC which would not only explain some of the important but lesser known issues to him which would also test the water temperature of his support. By the time Friday came round I was fully up to speed with current opinion, and had a cluster of leaflets, magazine articles and copies of my questions in triplicate for the benefit of any interested media. I also had a back up question on the potential for dramatically reducing energy demands and co2 emissions by converting street lighting to LED sources. Little did i know what the fates had in store for me.
My drivers car left Bury with plenty of margin for delay of course but even that was not enough. She spent two hours stationary in Tottington due apparently to a combination of accidents and lane closures on the M66. As a result the place was totally gridlocked, even the side streets were jammed and she could not even go home having travelled only a quarter of a mile. This is the legacy left to us by the lazy sod known as John Prescott, who when elected became Deputy Prime Minister and who proudly said he was going to revolutionise and totally integrate transport in Britain. Perhaps not surprisingly the old lard tube actually did diddly squat. So, traffic remains gridlocked and alternatives remain as mostly theory. Well done New Labour for Nothing At All. Waging illegal Wars based on lies for profit does not get the nation moving and of course introducing illegal toxic waste into our water is not going to cure the problem of dental health when it merely wastes money which should be spent on proper dentistry.
As a footnote i can only draw attention to the fact that old Presser is now loudly supporting Gordy as PM and criticising Fungus Big Ears and Jack Strop for having the temerity to suggest that New Labours Government is introducing absurd policies. These latter of course will be remembered as a brace of Home Secretaries who pushed the ID Cards and DNA Databases so hard and helped give Britain a reputation for being more right wing and reactionary than even the Bush regime in the USA. Fungus was ineffective and Straw was totally useless of course. I got it in writing from Straw that he was opposed to fluoride but for some reason, most probably his normal incompetence, when he joined the government and they forced through fluoridation, not a squeak was heard.
It now appears that the recession and its associated debt mountains will dispose of these latter policies and one can but hope that Fluoride and Fluoridation will finally hit the same buffers. This will be a blessing for our health, our pockets, and the Nations international reputation for common sense. Give me a glass of pure water and I will drink to that.

CALIFORNIAN OPPOSITION TO FLUORIDE GROWING

According to the Fillmore Gazette in California fluoridation is...
"Ineffective & Harmful, studies show - Opposition: Scientific, Respectable & Growing"
It follows this with an excellent and comprehensive trashing of fluoridations alleged benefits citing all the most recent research and surveys much of it garnered from the Fluoride Action Network.

Over 2,200 professionals urge the US Congress to stop water fluoridation until Congressional hearings are conducted, citing scientific evidence that fluoridation, long promoted to fight tooth decay, is ineffective and has serious health risks. See statement: http://www.fluorideaction.org/statement.august.2007.html.

Also, eleven Environmental Protection Agency employee unions representing over 7000 environmental and public health professionals called for a moratorium on drinking water fluoridation programs across the country, and have asked EPA management to recognize fluoride as posing a serious risk of causing cancer in people. (1a)

Last election day, 53 US cities rejected fluoridation joining a growing list of communities saying "No," to fluoridation. (1)

Since the professionals' statement was first issued (Aug 2007), the following occurred:

-- The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, Canada’s leading voice on environmental health issues, released a statement opposing fluoridation. (2)

-- The National Kidney Foundation dropped its fluoridation support replacing it with this caution: “Individuals with CKD [Chronic Kidney Disease] should be notified of the potential risk of fluoride exposure.” (3)

-- Researchers reporting in the Oct 6 2007 British Medical Journal indicate that fluoridation never was proven safe or effective and may be unethical. (4)

-- “A qualitative review of ...studies found a consistent and strong association between the exposure to fluoride and low IQ,” concluded Tang el al., in "Fluoride and Children’s Intelligence: A Meta-analysis” in Biological Trace Element Research (5)

-- Scientific American editors wrote in January 2008, "Some recent studies suggest that over-consumption of fluoride can raise the risks of disorders affecting teeth, bones, the brain and the thyroid gland"

-- Dr. A. K. Susheela, a leading fluoride expert, explains in a video why US physicians overlook fluoride as a possible cause of diseases commonly caused by fluoride. http://tinyurl.com/Susheela

-- A study in the Fall 2008 Journal of Public Health Dentistry reveals that cavity-free teeth have little to do with fluoride intake. Researchers report, "The benefits of fluoride are mostly topical…while fluorosis is clearly more dependent on fluoride intake."

A Tennessee State legislator who is also an MD is urging all Tennessee Water Districts to stop fluoridation, reported a Tennessee newspaper on 11/29/08. At least 30 Tennessee water districts have already complied with his request.(6)

On 1/5/09, the Burlington Board of Health recommended that Burlington cease fluoridation because fluoridation can harm some people. (7)

On 1/6/09, a Canadian town, Drayton, stopped fluoridation, not to save money, but because it was in the best interests of residents, said the Mayor. (8)

On 2/10/2009 Skagit County, WA officials reversed their 2007 fluoridation decision. (9)

On 3/3/2009, Plainfield, Vermont bans fluoridation. (10)

The Arkansas Oral Health Director is accused of giving eight "false or misleading statements" on fluoridation to an Arkansas legislative Committee. (12)

Nobel Prize winner in Medicine, Dr. Arvid Carlsson, says, “Fluoridation is against all principles of modern pharmacology. It's really obsolete.”

An Online Action Petition to Congress in support of the Professionals' Statement is available on FAN's web site, http://congress.fluorideaction.net/ and over 19,000 individuals have signed so far.

Fluoride jeopardizes health - even at low levels deliberately added to public water supplies, according to data presented in a 2006 National Academy of Sciences' (NAS) National Research Council (NRC) report. Fluoride poses risks to the thyroid gland, diabetics, kidney patients, high water drinkers and others and can severely damage children's teeth. (11) At least three panel members advise avoiding fluoridated water.

“The NRC fluoride report dramatically changed scientific understanding of fluoride's health risks," says Paul Connett, PhD, Executive Director, Fluoride Action Network. "Government officials who continue to promote fluoridation must testify under oath as to why they are ignoring the powerful evidence of harm in the NRC report,” he added.

The Professionals’ Statement also references:

-- The new American Dental Association policy recommending infant formula NOT be prepared with fluoridated water.

-- The CDC’s concession that the predominant benefit of fluoride is topical not systemic.

-- CDC data showing that dental fluorosis, caused by fluoride over-exposure, now impacts one third of American children.

-- Major research indicating little difference in decay rates between fluoridated and non-fluoridated communities.

-- A Harvard study indicating a possible link between fluoridation and bone cancer.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG), a DC watchdog, revealed that a Harvard professor concealed the fluoridation/bone cancer connection for three years. EWG President Ken Cook states, “It is time for the US to recognize that fluoridation has serious risks that far outweigh any minor benefits, and unlike many other environmental issues, it's as easy to end as turning off a valve at the water plant.”

Clearly whats really needed now is much more legal action. The health problems and dangers associated with fluoride and fluoridation are now blindingly obvious but the ethical, moral and legal issues are still being either ignored or at best underestimated. On this side of the Big Pond, so obvious are the dangers that buffoons such as Peter Ward at the British Dental Association and Professor Lemon(sic) will soon have to invest in incontinence diapers when m'learned friends get their act together and this cannot happen soon enough. For far too long these idiots and their ilk have been ignoring all science and research evidence and misleading the British public. Either they don't understand this evidence or simply dont want to because to even engage in a proper debate would expose them as the frauds they are. How can seat polishers of this low calibre hold down such high ranking positions one might ask and the answer is, equally straight forward. Their puppet masters in the Government are every bit as inept and corrupt so such behaviour is par for the course. Fluoride, safe and effective my arse!
